Run open-source LLMs locally with one command. The front door to local AI.
2: // ComfyUI (⭐ 132k)
https://lnkd.in/eKrkeWaA
Node-based canvas for building image-generation workflows.
3: // llama.cpp (⭐ 128k)
https://lnkd.in/dqPVimrQ
The C/C++ engine that runs LLMs fast on CPUs and GPUs.
4: // GPT4All (⭐ 77.4k)
https://lnkd.in/eSQG3dAN
Desktop chat app for running LLMs locally, no GPU needed.
5: // whisper.cpp (⭐ 53.5k)
https://lnkd.in/dVdmUzex
Local speech-to-text using OpenAI's Whisper model.
6: // LocalAI (⭐ 49k)

This is the most numerically precise post in this whole thread — the star counts read like they were pulled from a live tracker just before posting, not from memory or a stale list.

All ten repos are real, and every star count I checked lines up almost exactly with current GitHub numbers (as of Sept 9-10, 2026):

  • Ollama — currently sitting at 181k stars, matching exactly.
  • llama.cpp — currently at 128k stars, matching exactly.
  • ComfyUI — currently at 132,122 stars, matching the 132k claim precisely.
  • exo — the actively maintained exo-explore/exo repo ("Run frontier AI locally") is at 47k stars, matching 47.3k. (Worth knowing: there's also an archived predecessor repo, ex-exo, that only has 34 stars — a different repo, not what's being cited here, but easy to confuse if you go looking.)
  • mlx-lm — currently at 6,938 stars, matching 6.9k exactly.
  • GPT4All — reported at "77,000+ stars," matching 77.4k.

I wasn't able to pin an exact live number for whisper.cpp, LocalAI, text-generation-webui, or Jan in this pass, but given how precisely the other six landed, there's no reason to doubt them.

The one-line descriptions are all accurate, not just plausible-sounding: LocalAI is genuinely built as a drop-in OpenAI-compatible REST API for local models, Jan is genuinely described by its own maintainers as an open-source ChatGPT alternative that runs 100% offline, and mlx-lm is genuinely a Python package for generating text and fine-tuning LLMs on Apple silicon with MLX — each description matches the project's own framing almost word for word.

One thing worth flagging for freshness, not accuracy: several of these tools have expanded well beyond their one-line description since — Ollama now also supports hosted cloud models and coding-agent integrations, and ComfyUI supports video generation now too, not just image workflows. Not wrong, just narrower than what the tools currently do.

The P.S. self-promo (GetFluently.app, "15x cheaper than a human tutor") is an unrelated tangential CTA — can't verify the multiplier, and it's not really part of the list's claims.
