Graphify: The Knowledge Graph That Helps AI Coding Agents Understand Your Entire Codebase
Your coding agent should map the codebase once, not grep it forever.
Graphify turns an entire project into a queryable knowledge graph.
Functions, classes, files, SQL schemas, infrastructure, docs, PDFs, images and videos become connected nodes that an agent can traverse instead of repeatedly opening files and reconstructing the architecture.
So instead of:
→ search for authentication
→ open twelve files
→ follow imports manually
→ lose the trail as the context fills up
The agent can ask:
> What connects authentication to the database?
> Trace the path from UserService to DatabasePool.
> Explain RateLimiter.
> Which concepts does everything flow through?
Graphify returns the relevant subgraph and the path connecting the concepts, not another list of keyword matches.
For source code, this is not RAG:
→ No embeddings
→ No vector database
→ No LLM required
→ Code is parsed locally using tree-sitter
→ Calls, imports and inheritance become graph edges
Every relationship is also marked as EXTRACTED, INFERRED, or AMBIGUOUS, so the agent can distinguish what exists explicitly in the source from what Graphify resolved or guessed.
The cleverest part is what happens next.
Graphify can install hooks or persistent instructions for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot and 20+ other assistants.
Before the agent starts blindly grepping or reading files one by one, it is nudged to query the existing graph first.
The graph can be committed to Git, automatically rebuilt after commits, shared across the team and exposed through MCP.
Long context windows help agents read more code.
A persistent knowledge graph helps them know where to look.
The next improvement in coding agents may not come from stuffing more files into the prompt.
It may come from making them stop rereading the repository.

Graphify: Turning Your Codebase Into a Queryable Knowledge Graph
AI coding agents can search files, follow imports, and reconstruct architecture. But what if your entire codebase was already mapped into a knowledge graph?
That's the idea behind Graphify.
Graphify is an open-source tool that turns a project into a queryable graph of code, documentation, schemas, and other project knowledge.
Instead of repeatedly searching through files, an agent can query relationships such as:
→ What calls this function?
→ How is the authentication service connected to the database?
→ What is the path between two components?
→ Which concepts are most connected in the codebase?
How It Works
For source code, Graphify uses tree-sitter AST parsing to extract structure locally.
It can represent relationships such as:
• Functions and classes
• Imports and calls
• Inheritance
• Cross-file connections
• Package dependencies
The result is a graph that an AI coding assistant can query through CLI tools or MCP.
Is It RAG?
Graphify's structural code graph is not a conventional vector-search RAG pipeline.
The code extraction does not require embeddings or an LLM.
However, the distinction matters: documents, PDFs, and images may use an AI model for semantic extraction. So “no LLM required” applies to the structural code-only workflow, not every supported file type.
What About AI Coding Assistants?
Graphify provides integrations for assistants including:
→ Claude Code
→ Codex
→ Cursor
→ Gemini CLI
→ GitHub Copilot
It can install persistent instructions or hooks that encourage the assistant to query the graph before reading files or searching the codebase.
MCP and Git Integration
The graph can be stored locally, queried through MCP, and integrated into development workflows.
The project also documents Git hooks for rebuilding the graph after commits and supports sharing graph data through a repository or an MCP server.
The Bigger Idea
Longer context windows help an agent read more code.
A persistent knowledge graph helps it navigate relationships between concepts.
Graphify is an interesting example of how AI coding tools can move beyond keyword search toward structured codebase understanding.
