I Built My Mom a Voice AI Agent That Only Messages Her When Gold Prices Actually Move
So instead of manually checking every day, I built a Voice AI agent for her.
Every morning, it:
📈 Checks the gold price and compares it with a 15-day moving average (so tiny fluctuations don’t trigger anything + you can change days as per your requirement)
🤖 Uses Gemini 3.8 via the Vercel AI SDK to analyze the movement and decide if the drop is actually worth alerting her about
🗣️ Generates a warm Hindi / Telugu audio note using Sarvam's Bulbul V3
📲 Converts it to Opus/OGG → uploads to Cloudinary → sends it to her on WhatsApp via Twilio
And the important part: she doesn’t get a message every day.
The voice note only goes out when there’s a meaningful drop in gold price.
No drop = No WhatsApp spam ✅
Kept the whole thing lightweight too: no local file storage, everything runs in memory.
To stop manually checking gold prices every morning for his mom, the author built an automated voice agent. Each morning it checks the current gold price and compares it against a 15-day moving average (configurable) to filter out noise from small daily fluctuations. Gemini 3.8, accessed via the Vercel AI SDK, analyzes the price movement and decides whether the change is significant enough to be worth an alert. If so, Sarvam's Bulbul V3 — a text-to-speech model built specifically for Indian languages — generates a warm Hindi or Telugu voice note, which is converted to Opus/OGG format, uploaded to Cloudinary for hosting, and sent to his mom via WhatsApp using Twilio.
The key design choice: no alert goes out on a normal day. Only a meaningful price drop triggers a voice note, avoiding daily spam. The system is also kept lightweight, with no local file storage — everything runs in memory.
