Where are you currently working and what is it that you do there?
I'm a Data Engineer at Accenture in Toronto. I architect scalable data solutions on Azure Databricks — building and optimizing data workflows, orchestrating migrations, and generating the insights that drive strategic decisions. Over 8+ years I've worked across companies like Verizon, OSL Retail Services, and now Accenture, and the through-line has always been turning complex data into something the business can act on.
What does your typical day-to-day look like?
A lot of my work centers on building and maintaining data pipelines — architecting solutions on Azure Databricks, optimizing workflows, and constructing reporting tables that feed weekly and monthly reports on things like customer activity and revenue trends. I've done large-scale migrations, like moving data from Oracle to Azure Synapse using Databricks and PySpark, and a big part of my role is making sure those data solutions stay scalable and reliable. Python and SQL are woven through nearly all of it.
Can you tell us a bit more about your education and career up to this point? How did you get where you are?
I have a Bachelor's in Computer Science and Engineering, and I later added focused training in Business Analytics and Predictive Analytics here in Canada. My career started in software engineering at Hexaware, then moved into data engineering and analytics roles at Pathfinder Global, Verizon, and beyond. As my work became more and more data-centric, I wanted to make sure my Python foundation was truly solid — not just functional, but strong enough to build sophisticated analytics and machine learning work on top of. That's what led me to Kactii Academy.
What was it that led you to study at Kactii Academy?
Even with years of experience, I believe in continually sharpening the fundamentals. I wanted a program that was hands-on and practical rather than purely theoretical, and Kactii Academy delivered exactly that. I got to work with real code and real datasets, which is the kind of applied practice that deepens your understanding no matter how senior you are.
What would you say was the highlight of your learning experience?
Deepening my command of Python for data work — really internalizing the tools and patterns that make analysis and machine learning efficient. Even coming in with experience, there were techniques and approaches that sharpened how I write code and structure data problems. That kind of refinement is genuinely valuable.
What was the most challenging part of the learning experience?
Balancing the learning alongside a demanding career. But the bootcamp's structured, project-driven approach made that manageable — each concept built logically on the last, so I could keep momentum even with a full schedule. Pushing myself to master the details rather than rely on what I already knew was the rewarding kind of challenge.
